Information for staff
First off being part of an ID-Secure programme has to be a voluntary. Individuals must consent to their DNA being analysed - it's the law! Consent must be given freely and knowingly.
The process is simple - the individual needs to give a sample which is collected using a mouth swab and a special collection card - it's not painful, and to complete the paperwork confirming consent.
Their DNA sample is analysed and their profile is generated by our UK laboratories. The result is a series of numbers, representing their DNA profile, plus an indication of their gender (XX or XY - female or male) - other than that the analysis does not tell us anything about the individual - this is not like those services advertised by companies offering to inform you of your propensity to get a particular health condition.
Indeed the sample cannot be used for any other purpose other than "identification" unless separate and specific consent is given by the donor.
The sample declaration form, the sample collection card and the profile generated are returned to the company for storage in their HR records.
